5 Things Your Mom Didn’t Tell You About Sex

You are here for two reasons, either your parents breezed through the sex talk or they completely avoided it. Even if your parents had the sex talk with you, I doubt they went into details. Imagine how uncomfortable it is to have THE talk. I fondly remember my parents sitting my high school boyfriend and I down and repeatedly saying “You will not have sex.” And I can’t forget the “You will wait until marriage.” Needless to say, my parents didn’t offer anything useful but the abstinence speech. However, you can expect some useful information in this article.

1. Your first time does not have to hurt.

Chances are you’re expecting your first time to hurt, a lot. Your first time does not have to hurt necessarily. The key to a painless (or close to) first time is the preparation beforehand. You and your partner should partake in other sexual activities to prepare your body.

Another crucial detail is foreplay. You need to be in the mood to get down and dirty. If your mind isn’t feeling up for it, your body will show it.

2. Sex may not feel good the first time.

Many of us imagined our first time as this magical experience. Sometimes, (most of the time), it sucks. If you’re both new at this don’t have high expectations.

Like I mentioned in point number one, if you are not aroused enough it can make the experience more uncomfortable.

3. Always pee after sex.

If you take anything away from this, let it be this point. Always, and I mean always, pee after sex. During sex, bacteria get all up in your business and in order to prevent bladder infections (i.e. Urinary Tract Infection), pee ASAP. If not, well…

“This can result in post-intercourse bladder infections,” -Robert Wool, M.D., ob-gyn

4. Always shower after sex.

Cleaning up down there can prevent any infections. You want to wash off any lube, sweat, and or bodily fluids. (This goes for both men and women!)

5. Masturbation is completely normal.

Lastly, don’t be ashamed to explore your body. It amazes me how many women will turn up their nose at the thought of masturbation. Let’s be honest, if you don’t know your own body, how do you expect someone else to? Unless you want to experience some unsatisfactory sex, then I suggest learning what you like.

Let me just say one thing, if you’re old enough to be having sex then you’re old enough to talk about it. Because if you can’t talk about it, you shouldn’t be having it. Now, your mom may not have told you these things but I did. Better late than never right?
