Love Yo’ Self

Self love is a tricky topic. It can be either REALLY superficial or sincerely genuine. Often times we mention self love so much its floating around in our head but without any meaning or purpose. It’s easy to say “love yourself girl or nobody else will.” However, it’s another thing to wholeheartedly believe it. And coming from a regular 19-year-old woman I struggle with this everyday. I’m going to walk you through how to be honest with yourself and how to implement self love into your everyday life.

1. It’s okay to not be okay. Personally, I am my biggest critic. I am so hard on myself and I expect so much from myself that I don’t really give myself a break.  I find myself sometimes bringing myself down when I don’t get the grade I studied for or don’t do my best.  It’s so easy to be negative and point out our flaws, but our flaws are what make us human. We can’t do everything and anything. Realize life doesn’t always go as planned and that is okay. Say it with me, “I am okay!”

2. Don’t let little things ruin your entire day. I sound like a complete hypocrite because I am a master at feeding off of negative energy. I have a habit of letting little things upset me. (If it’s any consolation I also am excited by little things.) Think about all the things you let yourself get upset about that won’t matter two weeks, two months, or even two years from now. Don’t lose your peace of mind over trivial matters! Trust me I know it’s hard. But once you don’t let little things bother you anymore life seems a whole lot better.

3. You are perfectly imperfect. You know your flaws better than anyone else, but if you don’t point them out who would really notice? I have the body of a 19-year-old college student who gets less than 7 hours of sleep each night, strictly eats dining hall food, who occasionally gets sick, and whose posture could be better. And I am beautiful just the way I am. I used to go to the gym religiously but life happened, you know? If you are unhappy with yourself then make a change! Turn your dreams into your reality. (That was so cliché, I’m sorry.)
